    Zamuner ready to make return

By BRUCE GARRIOCH -- Ottawa Sun

Rob Zamuner was back on a line yesterday in practice. Tomorrow night, he'll be back in the lineup.

Skating with Vaclav Prospal and Joe Juneau, the Senators winger has fully recovered from a groin injury and he's been given clearance to suit up against the New York Rangers tomorrow night at Madison Square Garden.

After missing the last 10 days -- and five games -- because of a problem that was originally thought to be minor, Zamuner is anxious to get back so he can show the Senators he can be a reliable two-way forward.

"I'm looking forward to getting back to playing," said Zamuner. "It's tough when you're out of the lineup and you're not practising with the team, because you really don't feel like you're a part of it.

"It feels good right now. (Assistant coach)Perry Pearn gave me a real good workout on Saturday and it felt fine right after that. There was no pain. I'm ready to go."

Brought in to be one of the club's top wingers, Zamuner has struggled to score. In 10 games this season, Zamuner has two goals and two assists for four points.

     MORE OFFENCE

Nobody is expecting him to fill the net in the absence of captain Alexei Yashin, but the Senators would like him to contribute more. He admits he'd like to do more, because he knows the club isn't paying him $2.1 million US just to keep the puck out of his own net.

"I think the defensive part of the game is always going to be there for me. That's never going to change," said Zamuner. "I don't think I have to score 50 goals, but it would be nice if I could do a little more offensively."

Should Zamuner be inserted into the lineup, it could mean winger Bruce Gardiner will be a healthy scratch. The club hasn't been satisfied with his play and he has yet to score in 10 games.
