Wednesday, October 6, 1999 Marshall, Yashin agent remain silentNEW YORK (CP) -- Senators GM Marshall Johnston and Mark Gandler, the agent for suspended star Alexei Yashin, were both in Madison Square Garden on Tuesday, but there were no developments on their dispute."There's nothing new," Gandler told the Ottawa Sun. Gandler did run into NHL commissioner Gary Bettman at the league's Manhattan offices as Gandler was accompanying Anaheim defenceman Ruslan Salei to a disciplinary hearing. Bettman, according to the Ottawa Citizen, expressed his displeasure with Gandler's advice to Yashin. The league's position remains Yashin will owe the Senators another year if he doesn't play this season. It's believed the league is also contemplating a "drop-dead" date in which Yashin will not be allowed to return and have the year count toward fulfilling his contractual obligation to the Senators.
