Ohlund begins workouts in gymVANCOUVER (CP) -- Mattias Ohlund is back in the gym but it appears it will be weeks before he is back playing for the Canucks.
Ohlund began light workouts this week, his first real exercise since he suffered a serious eye injury 10 weeks ago.
"I'm probably in the worst shape I've been in during the last 10 years," he told the Vancouver Sun. "I haven't really done anything in 10 weeks so it's going to take some time. But it's a good feeling to move around again and finally do something."
The defenceman was struck in the right eye by a deflected puck in a pre-season game Sept. 21 in Ottawa. He lost most of the vision in his eye due to blood collecting in the posterior chamber and eventually needed surgery, which was performed three weeks ago. Ohlund said his vision is not yet 100 per cent but it has improved dramatically.
"Compared to what it was before, there is a huge difference," he said.
