Friday, June 9, 2000 Snow rejects Canucks' contract offerVANCOUVER (CP) -- Garth Snow and his agent Steve Mountain have rejected the Vancouver Canucks' two-year, $2-million US offer, leaving the goaltender free to test the waters as an unrestricted free agent on July 1.There's a remote chance Snow could return to the Canucks if no NHL team shows any serious interest. But that seems unlikely, because a number of teams, most notably Ottawa and Pittsburgh, could soon be crying out for goaltending help. When asked if Snow is definitely gone, Canucks senior vice-president of hockey operations Dave Nonis told the Vancouver Province: "That's probably correct." "This isn't about money," Nonis added. "Garth wants a chance to be a starter and we understand that. If he didn't feel that way I wouldn't like him as much as I do. But maybe the best situation he has is right here and if that's the case, then maybe we'll get him back." Mountain said Snow wouldn't sign the contract that's been offered, but agreed the money is secondary to the bigger problem: The Canucks view Snow as a backup to Felix Potvin and Snow wants a chance to start. "He has made it clear that he wants to be a No. 1 and he doesn't feel Vancouver offers that opportunity," said Mountain. "Sometimes things just change and it's time to move on. That's where Garth is at. But we can still talk if they want to."
