London driver leads funny car qualifying

Rob Atchison of London is the top qualifier in funny car after the first day at the ACDelco Canadian Nationals at Toronto Motorsports Park near Cayuga. Atchison had the two quickest passes yesterday -- 5.844 seconds (241.07 m.p.h.) in the afternoon, then a 5.775-second (242.02 m.p.h.) run at night.

The 27-year-old is second in the Hooters IHRA Drag Racing Series funny car points championship.

Clay Millican of Drummonds, Tenn., leads top fuel at 4.805 seconds (278.86 m.p.h.).

Todd Paton of Paris, who made his debut in top fuel at the Mopar Canadian Nationals May 30-June 1 at Grand Bend, is second at 4.987 seconds (274.22 m.p.h.).

Paton drove a funny car for 18 years and was a two-time IHRA champion.

Al Billes of Barrie is fourth in pro mod at 6.301 seconds (225.631 m.p.h.). Mitch Stott of Mill Spring, N.C., leads at 6.237 seconds (228.69 m.p.h.).
