London Free Press Sports Section:

Ice House to go to high bid

Free Press Sports Staff   2003-10-07 04:10:59

Going, going and hopefully gone, Mark and Dale Hunter hope. The former London Ice House, which for almost 40 years was the home of junior hockey in London, will be sold to the highest bidder today at 1 p.m.

The Hunters, owners of the London Knights, sold the Ice House last year to dirt bike entrepreneurs who turned the arena into the London Motoplex.

It was home to arena-cross cycling.

The idea never caught on and the ownership of the building reverted to the Hunters when the new owners defaulted on payments.

The four-hectare parking lot behind the arena which the Hunters continue to own, will be offered for bid first, then the building and its lot.

Then the lot and the building will be offered together.

"We're looking forward to the auction," said Mark Hunter, whose team now plays at the John Labatt Centre. "We just want to remind people that it's going on."
