Every so often a sporting event has the unique ability to reach far beyond the court or field on which it is played.
Winnipeggers were exposed to such an occurrence this past year when the Pan American Games took over the city from July 23 to Aug. 8.

Best Pan Am Games ever

By the time the summer of '99 rolled around, Manitobans were getting tired. It seemed there'd been a constant call for volunteers, not only for the three previous events but also for dozens of test events leading to the Big Daddy of them all.
The 1999 Pan American Games were a massive undertaking, the largest multi-sport event ever held in Canada, and the third-largest in North America.

When Dominique Bosshart was competing in taekwondo at last summer's Pan Am Games, she met a woman from her hometown of Landmark.
The encounter became one of the bronze-medal winner's most memorable moments.
