Osberg named GM of the Red Deer Outlaws

Vancouver, B.C. -- The Canadian Baseball League, the newest international professional baseball league, is pleased to announce the hiring of Perry Osberg as General Manager of the Red Deer Outlaws.

"IÕm looking forward to the challenge" said Mr. Osberg. "Red Deer is a great place for baseball and the Outlaws will be an integral and important part of the community. I am excited about the possibilities, and anticipate working hand-in-hand with the other GMÕs to make the CBL a success" continued Mr. Osberg.

"I am very pleased to add another quality individual to the CBL team" commented CBL President and CEO, Tony Riviera. "Perry is well respected in the Alberta baseball community, and weÕre confident he will contribute greatly to the success of the Outlaws" continued Mr. Riviera.

OsbergÕs first official duty as Outlaw GM was the signing of two talented young local players. Jeremy Benson and Greg Rice have both inked contracts with the Red Deer Outlaws.

Benson, 19, is an outfielder who played with the Red Deer Junior Stags in 2001, and was named 2000 MVP at the highly competitive Okanagan Baseball Camp in Oliver, BC. Rice is a 19-year old catcher from the Red Deer Braves AAA Midgets and was a member of Team Alberta in 1999. Both Benson and Rice played with the Calgary Dawgs at the 1999 Arizona Baseball Academy Tournament.

Osberg, 39, is a native of Lethbridge who brings both baseball and business experience to his position as Red Deer GM. With over thirty years as a player and coach, Mr. Osberg has won national championships at both the Senior Little League (1977) and Big League (1980) levels, and as a result is a two-time (1988, 1998) inductee in the Lethbridge Sports Hall of Fame. Mr. Osberg was active coaching and managing in amateur baseball until 2000, when his son Tanner was drafted by the New York Mets.
