  • Sylvie Cantin - Long Track Speed Skating

    Sylvie Cantin

It came down to her very last race at the Olympic trials. Sylvie Cantin, a national team member for the past 10 years was in her fourth and final attempt to achieve her Olympic dream. The setting was a 1,000 metre race-off for the last spot on the Olympic team against Michelle Morton one of Canada's top sprinters. Cantin, a 27-year-old medical student, was the underdog. But she simply put together the race of her life to beat Morton as both skaters roared to personal best times. "The fact that both of us did personal bests makes it even more gratifying," said Cantin, who took a year off from her studies. "That's a great way to get on the Olympic team. It came down to a showdown between two skaters at their best."
