Susan Massitti - Long Track Speed Skating
Ingrid Liepa lost her Canadian records last season, not to an up and comer,
but rather to Calgary's Susan Massitti. Like Liepa, Massitti entered the
speed skating world as a late bloomer. The 34-year-old smashed Liepa's
marks in the 1,500 and 3,000 at the Canadian championships this past spring
wearing the new Klap skates.
Massitti, who also holds the Canadian 5,000 record, entered the speed
skating scene seven years ago after a stint with the national biathlon
team. But the physiotherapist with the National Sport Centre - Calgary
retired in 1993 to finish her Masters in Australia. She was the Canadian
swimming team's physiotherapist at the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta.
