Michelle Morton has shown the capabilities to post top-10 results in the 500 metres in international competition. Two seasons ago she achieved that feat three times on the World Cup and also placed second at the Canadian sprint championships. Last year the fifth-year national team member struggled. Her best international performance was 12th in the 500 at the world championships. Morton is a former figure skater who performed in the closing ceremonies at the 1988 Calgary Olympics.
