  • Mike Michalchuk - Snowboarding

Mike Michalchuk began the 1997-98 season on Canada's national B team in part because he broke his ankle in a dirt bike accident last March. But the 20-year-old Calgary resident climbed back to the top winning the team trials finale in men's half-pipe to qualify for the Olympics. "I worked real hard to get back," said Michalchuk. "I took up this sport just for fun. Then about two years ago I heard it was going to be an Olympic sport and that's when I set my goal to make the team. I can't believe I made it."
