World junior champion Maelle Ricker of West Vancouver provides Canada with an impressive 1-2-3 punch in women's halfpipe along with Natasza Zurek and Tara Teigen. An incredibly strong rider, Ricker, 19, grew up in Whistler and was able to snowboard almost every weekend as a youngster. Her older brother Morley, also a national team member and an outstanding snowboarder in his own right, contributed considerably to Maelle's success. "You can tell the diference with Maelle," said Canadian national team coach Colin Blake. "It's obvious she was pushed by her brother and trained regularly with men. It's paid off." Ricker was 11th at the world senior championships and earned two bronze medals on the World Cup circuit. The Canadian champion also grabbed two gold on the ISF circuit and was fourth at its world junior championships.
