    Canada's skaters sizzle

By MELANIE CAMPBELL -- Toronto Sun
Looks aren't everything, but looks and personality? Now, there's something.
And among fans at this week's Canadian Figure Skating Championships, it is that combination that tugs at their heartstrings.
So, you ask, just who are the real hunks and cuties?
We know Elvis Stojko is Canada's reigning men's champ, but the majority of fans here in Ottawa also consider him the king of their hearts.
The fans say Stojko is the No. 1 hunk because he combines a great personality and an ability to relate to the crowd with his good looks. Stojko's overall package is guarranteed to make the girls swoon, and his flirtatious show programs reassert that he has a commanding hold on his fans' hearts.
If Elvis is the king of hearts, 21-year-old Jayson Denommee is the crown prince, especially with the younger ladies.
Denommee's fans were out in full force at the men's short program Thursday night, waving banners proclaming his skate was worth a 6.0, but his pants were worth a 10.
Denommee's program was designed to drive the ladies crazy: He swivels his hips and runs his hand through his tussled blond hair. No modesty here.
"Jayson can relate to the crowd," said skating fan Doreen Coulter of Alliston. "He knows how to pull the audience in."
Denommee modestly attributes his good looks and personality to his genes, and hopes to continue to please the fans.
"I thank my mom and dad for that (his attractiveness)," said Denommee. "I hope that I will always be a showman. I think that I was born that way; it's just in me."
Other fan favourites include pairs skater David Pelletier, Jeff Langdon and Ottawa native Fedor Andreev.
Pelletier's partner, Jamie Sale, topped our informal poll of ice princesses. The fans find Sale "adorable," thanks in no small part to her ability to light up a rink with her big, wide smile
"I think what everybody really likes is our (her's and Pelletier's) personality," said Sale.
Joining Sale among the fans' choices were the ever-popular Jennifer Robinson and Shae-Lynn Bourne.
Bourne is noted in particular for her gorgeous long blonde hair and stunning smile.
Robinson's bubbly personality, not to mention looks, keep her scoring high with the fans.
"She has a great personality," said novice pairs skater James Johnson. "She always has a smile on her face."
Which all means just one thing: This Canadians is blessed with more than just a bunch of great champions -- it also has more than its fair share of heartthrobs.
