Wight retains title against Triple H at SkyDome
By JOHN POWELL -- SLAM!
The Big Show dished out the big hurt as he defeated Triple H to
retain the WWF World Title in SkyDome tonight. Unusually positioned as the
sixth event in a ten match card (World Title matches are more often than
not the main event of the evening), the text book kick, punch and stomp
encounter was the only disappointment in an otherwise satisfying outing by
the World Wrestling Federation.
The Big Show battles Triple H at SkyDome Saturday, November 20. -- Veronica Henri, Toronto Sun
For the record, Mankind, Al Snow and The Hollys stole the show with a one
of a kind tag match that had SkyDome rumbling with laughter. Here's hoping
the bout is "replayed" on Raw or an upcoming pay-per-view. (See details
in the results below
Originally it was supposed to be Steve Austin taking on Triple H and The
Big Show locking horns with The Big Bossman. Austin's nagging neck injury,
which rumor has it could keep him out of in-ring for good, caused the WWF
to reorganize the card.
Triple H stupidly tried to match strength with The Big Show in the early
going. Wight shrugged off the leader of D-Generation X twice without
breaking a sweat. Helmsley unloaded on the Big Show with some Mongolian
punches in a corner. Wight reversed an Irish Whip landing two neck-snapping
clotheslines. Triple H took a walk. Fed-up with Triple H's stalling
tactics, The Big Show chased him around the ring. Helmsley caught the
lumbering Big Slow coming back into the ring with some atomic stomps.
Big Show unleashed another masterful clothesline as Triple H fought back by
landing a series of Tasmanian haymakers off the ropes. An uppercut sent
Triple H through the ropes and onto the floor. The two superstars brawled
in the ringside area. Triple H ate the steel security fence but when Big
Show attempted to ram him into the steel post, Helmsley reversed it pushing
Wight into it and then into the ring stairs. Returning to the ring,
Helmsley super-stomped The Big Show. An extraordinary Big Knee caught Wight
in the kisser. Triple H got a two count.
Helmsley jumped onto Wight's back cinching in a sleeper hold. The Big Show
dropped to one knee though the crowd's chants encouraged him to "hulk-up"
and backbreaker Triple H and also knock out the referee as he scooped up
Helmsley. The Big Boss Man and Prince Albert did a run-in while the
official lay motionless.
Helmsley scored another two count as Wight kicked out with authority.
Triple H bounced off the ropes. Big Show caught him setting-up a Chokeslam.
Before Helmsley could be raised to the roof, he low-blowed Wight. Triple H
climbed to the top rope, dove off and was caught a second time. Big Show
Chokeslammed Helmsley to get the 1-2-3 and hold onto the WWF World
Heavyweight Title. After the match, Triple H cut a promo by saying he was
pretty disappointed he didn't win back the title though he took comfort in
the fact that at least he wouldn't have to start a title reign in a crappy
city like Toronto. Gee, thanks Hunter. We love you too.
