SLAM! Wrestling Guest Column
Everytime me and my friends get into a conversation about wrestling we usually talk about a wrestler and state all their qualities.
The other day we were talking about the most underated wrestler. I, of course, said it was Chris Benoit. My friend said X-Pac. I immediately burst out laughing.
Later that day I started to ponder what people actually like about X-Punk...I mean Pac. Sure he is very over as a face...but why? This guy does not have the overwhelming physique of The Rock or Triple H. So what do smaller wrestlers rely on to win their matches? Of course speed is the first thing that comes to mind but, high flying, high risk moves are not far behind.
Then I realized something, X-Pac does not use high flying moves.
I watched the match between X-Pac and Test on Raw a couple of weeks ago and X-Pac used the spinning heel kick three times in that match. Three times! If any other wrestler used the same move three times in a match, online fans would be calling for their head.
And I still haven't seen a column criticizing him yet.
How about that Bronco Buster? That is the stupidest wrestling move I have ever seen. It is almost as bad as Hogan trying to make his legdrop a believable finisher again.
Now that his weak repertoire has been established, I realize there have been wrestlers that are terrible in the ring but get by on mic skills (ie: Hulk Hogan, Kevin Nash, etc...).
Then I had another realization. X-Pac has very weak mic skills too. No, I don't consider continually pointing to your crotch and saying "S*ck It!" strong mic skills. His interviews are about as entertaining as watching Konnan's music video.
What hidden appeal does X-Pac have that fans like? Beats the hell out of me!
So whenever someone tells me X-Pac is underated I say to hell with that, he is overrated. Just because he's in D-X won't make me cheer him.
