Mascara Magica unmasked
By JOHN F. MOLINARO -- SLAM! Wrestling
Mexican promotion Empresa Mexicana de Lucha Libre (EMLL) held its second pay-per-view show of the year Friday night, as hooded wrestler Mascara Magica was unmasked following a wild main event at Mexico City's Arena Mexico.
Magica was the last wrestler remaining in the steel-cage main event featuring six other wrestlers. A pre-match stipulation cited that the last man to escape the cage would either lose his mask or have his head shaved.
The order of escape from the cage was Tarzan Boy, Rey Bucanero, El Mephisto, Ultimo Guerrero, El Averno and E Satanico. Magica, a seven-year veteran, was revealed as Antonio Gomez, age 29 from the city of Colotlan, Jalisco.
In the semi-main event, former WCW star
Juventud Guerrera teamed with his father Fuerza Guerrera, Dr. Wagner Jr. and Universo Dos Mil to defeat former WCW Lizmark Jr., Negro Casas, Villano IV and Black Tiger.
Olimpico, Mr. Niebla and Safari retained the Mexican National Trios Titles by defeating Gran Markus Jr., Violencia and Poder Boricua.
In other matches: Black Warrior, Apolo Dantes and Shocker defeated Atlantis, Brazo De Plata and Felino; Dr. X, Virus and Mr. Mexico beat Ricky Marvin, Sicodelico Jr. and Tigre Blanco.
Tonight's event was EMLL's eigth pay-per-view in company history. Earlier this year, Mexican wrestling legend
Perro Aguayo had his head shave at EMLL's
El Juicio Final pay-per-view. Aguayo lost a hair vs mask match against heated rival Universo Dos Mil.
EMLL is the oldest wrestling promotion in the world. Its origin dates back to its first shows in 1933. Tonight's show celebrated the promotion's 68th anniversary.
