Wednesday, April 15, 1998French tourism minister says comments misunderstoodLONDON (AP) -- French Tourism Minister Michelle Demessine, who created a fuss this week by encouraging British soccer fans to go to the World Cup without tickets, is expected to repeat her call across Europe.She is to travel to Italy and Germany later in the week. Demessine said she was only trying to promote French tourism. "I am not sure whether she is trying to promote tourism or a Third World War in Europe," Parliament member Michael Fabricant said. "It seems to me that a lot of people with time on their hands but with no tickets in their hands represent trouble ..." British officials and French organizers have been urging people without tickets to stay away from the matches, fearing an outbreak of violence at the sites.
