Baggio wants to score for country
BOLOGNA, Italy (AP) -- Roberto Baggio is still scoring goals for his club. Now he wants a chance to do it for his country, too.Baggio has scored 16 goals for Bologna this season, but he was not selected by Italy coach Cesare Maldini for Wednesday's warmup match against Paraguay.
"I said before the season that I wanted to score 20 and I will do my best to do so. And if that will help me return to the national team, all the better," Baggio said Sunday after tallying twice in a 3-0 win over his old club, AC Milan.
"I don't know if I can convince Maldini with these goals, but if so, I'd be quite happy," he said.
Baggio led Italy to the final at the 1994 World Cup with five goals in three games, but he has made just one appearance for the Azzurri in the past three years.
