Goalie gets second chance to shut out Ronaldo

FRANKFURT, Germany (AP) -- Yves Eigenrauch, who shutout Brazilian star Ronaldo when Schalke played Inter Milan in the UEFA Cup Tuesday, could get the chance to do it again when Germany entertains Brazil next week.
The defender, yet to play for the national team, is on coach Berti Vogts' roster for the World Cup warmup game at Stuttgart in which the European Champion meets the World Cup champion.
In the UEFA Cup quarterfinal Tuesday, which Inter tied 1-1 to gain the semifinal, Eigenrauch was responsible for checking Ronaldo, and the Brazilian, twice FIFA's Player of the Year, failed to score.

MANCHESTER, England (AP) -- Andy Cole is the latest Manchester United player to withdraw from England's World Cup warmup game against Switzerland next Wednesday.
The striker injured a leg in Wednesday's Champions Cup tie with Monaco. He joins Paul Scholes, brothers Gary and Philip Neville and defender Gary Pallister on the list of injured England players.
     ------
LONDON (AP) -- Alex McGivan, campaign director for England's bid to be the host for the 2006 World Cup, is not putting much weight on the fact that it has the personal support of FIFA president Joao Havelange.
The FIFA president met Prime Minister Tony Blair last week and said his own view was that England should get the World Cup ahead of Germany and South Africa.
"A few people got carried away by the events of last week, but we are very realistic," McGivan said.
"We were delighted that the president of FIFA said what he said and it gave the bid a high profile in the country. But we are certainly not naive. There is a lot of politics going on."
The decision to award the 2006 World Cup will be taken by FIFA's executive committee in June 2000.
"We realize we have to persuade 24 other individuals," McGivan said, "some of whom share his views and some of whom don't."
     ------
BRUSSELS, Belgium (AP) -- In 1986, it was Jean-Marie Pfaff. In 1994, it was Michel Preud'homme. Now, Belgium is struggling to find a goalkeeper for the 1998 World Cup capable of matching their performances which earned them the goalkeeper of the tournament awards.
Filip De Wilde, usually the first choice of coach Georges Leekens, has been sitting on the bench with Portugal's Sporting Lisbon and has been overlooked for Wednesday's exhibition against Norway.
Instead, Leekens will start Dany Verlinden of Belgian first-division leader FC Brugge, a veteran who has made a few appearances as the second-choice keeper in recent years.
     ------
PARIS (AP) -- A famous French theater on the Champs Elysees will turn its stage over to sports drama during the World Cup by broadcasting the event's 64 matches live.
The Theatre du Rond Point, located midway down the famous boulevard, will also be the site of cocktail parties and dinner galas on match days.
