Thursday, May 21, 1998Bookmaker taking red-card bets on ShearerLONDON (AP) -- Bookmaker William Hill is quoting odds of 5-1 on England captain Alan Shearer getting a red card at the World Cup.William Hill began taking bets after referee Paul Durkin, who will be an official at the World Cup, warned that Shearer would have been ejected if his foul against Arsenal's Tony Adams in The Football Association Cup final had been in a World Cup game. Ladbrokes predicted the most likely teams to play in the World Cup final are defending champion Brazil and host France. That matchup is being offered at 9-1. Brazil vs. Germany or Italy or England are quoted at 10-1. A Germany-Italy or Germany-England final is 25-1.
