AMERICAN LEAGUE

Charles Johnson's two-run homer ignited a five-run rally in the
top of the 10th inning as the Baltimore Orioles snapped a
nine-game losing streak with a 6-3 victory over the slumping
Boston Red Sox.
Bobby Higginson led off the bottom of the 11th inning with a
single and scored on a ground ball as the Detroit Tigers
remained perfect against the New York Yankees this season with a
7-6 victory.
Rookie Steve Cox highlighted a seven-run fourth inning with his
first career grand slam and Steve Trachsel won for the third
time in four decisions as the Tampa Bay Devil Rays routed the
Toronto Blue Jays, 11-1.
Jim Thome homered twice and drove in four runs as the Cleveland
Indians hit four homers in a 12-1 romp over the Kansas City
Royals.
NATIONAL LEAGUE

Lee Stevens doubled three times and homered and rookie Tony
Armas allowed one run over 5 1/3 innings as the Montreal Expos
posted a 6-4 triumph over the sputtering Atlanta Braves.
Todd Ritchie tossed a three-hitter for his first career shutout
and Brian Giles homered as the Pittsburgh Pirates snapped a
four-game losing streak with a 6-0 victory over the slumping
Chicago Cubs.
Darryl Kile worked 7 1/3 innings to become the second 11-game
winner in the National League and Edgar Renteria hit a three-run
homer to lift the St. Louis Cardinals to a 4-3 victory over the
Cincinnati Reds.
Curt Schilling continued his resurgence with eight strong
innings and light-hitting shortstop Desi Relaford knocked in
four runs, lifting the Philadelphia Phillies to a 7-0 rout of
the Milwaukee Brewers.
Scott Elarton pitched eight strong innings and Moises Alou and
rookie Mitch Meluskey had big offensive games, powering the
Houston Astros to a 12-4 rout of the Arizona Diamondbacks.
Eric Karros answered a brushback pitch with an RBI single with
two outs in the bottom of the 10th inning as the Los Angeles
Dodgers ended their five-game losing streak with a 5-4 victory
over the San Diego Padres.
