In the words of outdoorsman and Critter Camp Stove Stands creator Peter Nelson, "things that are heavy don't have to be." Here are three ideas that will leave plenty of space in the pack this summer.

Critter CR2 Camp Stove Stand

Undeterred by the failure of his Kickstarter campaign for the Critter CR1, Peter Nelson launched the product anyway and due to its smashing success, funding for the Critter CR2 is expected to draw a crowd this time.

Like its predecessor, the CR2 is also a light, collapsible yet sturdy stove-stand, but it's more versatile, with increased capacity to hold a variety of pots and pans and a wider spread that makes it compatible with a variety of stoves, even wood fires.

Thanks to the support of 81 backers, Nelson is a little more than halfway to meeting his fundraising goals at press time and the product is available for pre-order at a discounted "early bird special" price of $20.

Shipping is expected in September of this year and shipping outside the US is available for an extra $10.

Matadoor Pocket Blanket

Tiny, but tough, the Matadoor is made of water-repellant, puncture-proof HyprLite Nylon and the smallest version folds up to the size of a key tag, although it covers a surface area of or 71cm x 1m11 when spread out for a picnic or other sun-soaking activities.

The larger version unfolds to cover a surface area of 1m39 x 1m11 and is approximately the size of an average smartphone when folded.

Both versions have weighted corners and the folded size isn't the only thing that's Lilliputian: it costs $19.99 for the mini version and $24.99 for the larger one.

Bringing barista-style java to the campsite, the Handpresso is making headlines in the blogosphere as a must have for the 2014 outdoor season.

The sleek, French innovation has won seven international design awards and is available in an array of colors and packages, ranging from 79 euros for a basic, manual version to 149 euros for a slightly larger, electric product.

A travel case is available as well as a variety of picnic case sets with accessories such as unbreakable cups.
