MONTREAL — Resourceful drug dealers tried to smuggle 11 kg of heroin through Trudeau Airport by sewing the drugs into imported rugs.

Canada Border Services agents discovered $4 million worth of heroin after they examined a shipment of rugs from Pakistan. The drugs had been hidden inside the hand-knotted woollen fibres of the rugs.

No one has been arrested so far.

The July 30 seizure was one of more than 2,000 such operations in the Quebec region alone over the past year.

The total street value of the seizures is estimated at $680 million.
