After launching its iPhone app earlier this year, US low-cost carrier JetBlue is asking for help from its Facebook fans to develop its new tablet app.

On Monday, JetBlue launched the ThinkUp campaign on Facebook in which the carrier is asking its US customers to "come up with an idea for JetBlue's first tablet experience."

The contributors who come up with the ideas that get the most votes will win flights for a year: Fivegrand prize winners will receive a JetBlue travel certificate for two roundtrip tickets a month during a year. Fees, surcharges and taxes will be paid by the traveler.

Participants are asked to submit a 300-character idea and/or visual representation of what they would like the next JetBlue app to look like. Videos are not accepted. The contest opened on November 19 and will run until December 2.

Ideas can be submitted in one of the following categories: functional, fun and games, ticketing and deals, loyalty, educational or other.

Ideas will be judged by JetBlue on their creativity/originality, the quality of the visual presentation, the idea's feasibility and relevance to JetBlue. Each of the criteria is worth 25 percent of the total score. The carrier will choose 30 submissions and then will ask its users to vote for the best ones on Facebook from December 10 through December 17.

JetBlue has been slow to adopt the digital front, only launching its first iPhone app early this year. The app currently has one million users.

It is not the first time an airline has used Facebook as a way to promote their brand. Last month Air Canada launched a contest asking its customers to help the airline find a name for its new low-cost company that will start operating in 2013. Participants are eligible to win one of three Air Canada Vacations gift certificates, each valued at $1,500. According to its Facebook page the company received thousands of ideas and will be announcing the winner shortly.
