More Canadians are planning to leave the country this year over the holidays compared to last year, the new 2013 BMO Holiday Travel Outlook has found.
Holiday travel is on an uptick, with 65% of Canadians planning some kind of winter vacation, an 8% increase from last year.
While 40% plan to vacation in their own province, which is no change from 2012, 25% of those polled said they're planning to leave Canada this year, up from 19%.
Spending will also be up — $689 will be the average amount spent on holiday travel this year, up 22% over last year, the poll from BMO found.
The online poll of 1,000 adult Canadians was done between Oct. 11 and 16. The margin of error is 2.8 percentage points.
