We asked Canoe.ca and Sun Media readers to tell us their biggest travel pet peeves. You fired back with ultra annoying stories about fellow passengers on airplanes, rude tourists at all-inclusive resorts and big problems when visiting hotels. Here are your top 15 stories:

1. "Overhead storage is for one legal bag above your seat, not your bag, your purse, your laptop, your coat, an extra sweater and the shopping you did at duty free... one bag above YOUR seat..." - Greg G.

2. "My pet peeve when travelling is having to put up with people I would otherwise never associate with. Other people's brats, drunks, loud mouths, ignorant, opinionated red-necks, dim wits, clingy people who won't go away. People no longer know how to behave in public they are too self absorbed and oblivious of just what a pain in the a** they are." - Tim Devlin

3. "People with B.O. or who are drowning in perfume or cologne. Air's bad enough on planes, let alone being gassed with an unpleasant stench from the person sitting 2 inches from you." - Kit1972

4. "I hate the fact that you have to get up at 6 a.m. to put your towel on a chair by the pool or beach [at an all-inclusive resort]. At one resort, the Quebecers even put their towels out the night before. Had to laugh when people, going back to their rooms at 2 a.m., tossed all the towels in the pool. Was great listening to the fights in the morning. Also don't like getting up early and lining up to book dinner... guess there's a theme, I don't like getting up early." - rightallthetime62

5. "Not being able to pick my hotel room when reserving online. I can pick my seat on the plane and in theatres (e.g., Shaw, Stratford) and concert halls. But not hotel rooms." - Al_Dente

6. "I travel quite a bit and many a times I get the person next to me who's flying for the first time and is so nervous, he/she just keeps on talking. Even some don't get the message when I tell them that I'd prefer not to talk anymore. They kind of figured that since they're doing all the talking - and I'm only listening - that it's ok... bring a book for crying out loud!!!" - Mark

7. "People who aren't ready at the airport security check-in. Seriously... unless you live under a rock, you know there are rules. Learn them before you travel and play by the rules." - Lorrie

8. "I do a fair amount of travel each year, to a point that I know the layout of various airports world wide by memory. I plan my travel, not just allowing myself sufficient time to make all the connections, but I also create a mental time budget, to make sure that I am comfortable, relaxed, and never rushed[...] Some people have a sense of self entitlement, and believe that the rules and queues do not apply to them. And when events do not turn out as they expected, they become loud and belligerent. In the end, their only accomplishment, is to cause themselves further delay, as well as alienating others by adding delays to those waiting patiently behind them." - edward_lee

9. "People who stand as close as they can to the baggage carousel, instead of standing back a few feet. Standing so close makes it difficult for others see their luggage, then you have fight to get in between them to get your bag." - trailerforsaleorrent

10. "I hate airlines that shake you down for bogus fuel surcharges. You can save your frequent flyer points for a supposedly "free" flight yet you end up paying hundreds of dollars in these fees. Funny that they never seem to go away even if the price of oil dips." - N Buretti

11. "Flying most every week it's easy to list off pet peeves, but my top 3 gotta be: 3) Late/cancelled flights (doesn’t matter who's fault it is); 2) Rude airline staff; 1) The ridiculous current security measures." - CanadianTimes

12. "I am an experienced international traveller who has travelled between Canada and Africa with my family at least 14 times over the last 16 years - and I absolutely DETEST it when my overhead cabin space has been taken by a rude individual with too much carry on luggage. You pay a fortune for your ticket and should at least be entitled to a portion of the overhead luggage compartment with your seat number on it. Once our family had an entire row of 4 adjoining seats and those four were the only seat numbers on the overhead bin directly above, yet other people STILL put their stuff in it before we could get to our seats. If I don't use up all my space, fine, you can use what's left, but DON'T put your stuff in MY bin before I've had a chance to use it. If at all possible, I don't want strangers leaning over me to get to the overhead bin above me, nor do I want to do that to someone else. And please, if you are too tall/fat for your seat, that is not my problem. Once a person sitting behind me had the audacity to lift his feet up and put his one leg through the space between our seats in front of him, and put his foot on MY armrest in front of him! I elbowed him off real quick!" - Anonymouseme14

13. "Pet-peeve is fellow guests who can't close a door without slamming it [at hotels], or the ones who can't walk down the hallway to an elevator without talking at the top of their voices, with total disregard for anyone trying to catch a few zzzz." - Kevinyyc

14. "What irks me is our American neighbours with Canadian flags on their luggage or clothing posing as a Canadian in airport lines." - federalmeddeling

15. "I was travelling from Denver to Calgary and some guy decided to clip his toenails right beside me, seriously disgusting. There should be rules about hygiene and grooming onboard. P.S. I can't stand security with their filthy hands or gloves going through my stuff, makes me want to disinfect everything." - thomasomalley
