The great majority of pilots (4 out of 5) admit to having had to cope with fatigue while being in the cockpit, according to a new study by the European Cockpit Association (ECA).

More than half the Swedish (54%) and Norwegian (53%) pilots, half the Danish ones and 43% of the British pilots surveyed reported involuntarily falling asleep while flying, and 65% of the French pilots declared experiencing occasional trouble keeping their eyes open.

Pilots in Sweden (71%), Norway (79%) and Denmark (90%) acknowledged that they have made mistakes due to fatigue.

More than 6000 European pilots were surveyed for this study.
