In a move that recognizes the shift away from cable TV to on-demand, online videos, LG Electronics has released a "next generation TV" specifically for hotels that allows guests to sync downloaded content from their smartphones and tablets to the big, small screen.
Billed as a "next generation" interactive TV, LG Electronics USA has launched a series of LP870H TVs which allow users to watch a film from their personal multimedia library, stored in their phone or tablet.
The new TV also allows users to switch back and forth between their device and the TV for seamless viewing. For example, instead of watching a YouTube video on their phone they can sync to the TV to watch it on the larger screen.
Meanwhile, all the rooms at Starwood Hotels & Resorts' Aloft Hotel, located steps from Apple's brain center in Cupertino, California, are equipped with Apple TVs which also allow guests' to sync their iPhones, iPads or iPod Touch devices and personal iTunes accounts to the TVs.
