Hopkins, Spacey head Toronto Film Festival slate
LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Films starring Anthony Hopkins, Kevin Spacey and Ian McKellen will be among the world premieres at the 1997 Toronto International Film Festival.
The opening night film will be The Sweet Hereafter, starring Ian Holm in an adaptation of Russell Banks' novel, the festival announced Wednesday.
Among other premieres are the romantic drama Swept From the Sea, based on the short story Amy Foster by Joseph Conrad. It stars McKellen, Rachel Weisz and Vincent Perez. Another debut will be the wilderness adventure The Edge, with Hopkins and Alec Baldwin. Spacey stars opposite Russell Crowe and Guy Pearce in L.A. Confidential, based on the novel by James Ellroy.
Other debuts include Vanessa Redgrave in Mrs. Dalloway, Sophie Marceau in Marquise and Jonathan Pryce in Regeneration.
The festival, which is considered the most prominent in North America, runs Sept. 4-13.
